Track Delhi Sustainable Development Goal - Greenest Area

Delhi as the capital city of India makes a good example for a study of sustainable urbanisation. Over the past 10 years, the rising urbanism has turned our cities into concrete jungles, which has consequently resulted in pollution and health issues. We see traffic and mighty buildings everywhere. For the town folks, the traffic-filled environment isn’t a brand-new thing. However, some places have balanced the urbanisation and tried to protect the green pastures which are natural air filters for India’s increasingly polluted cities.

The Word “greenery” for an area can be interpreted as the sustainability of that area.

To calculate the sustainability of land we are accessing it a score. This score is termed as Green Score equal to the percentage of green area concerning the total area.

In calculating the green area, the following types of lands are used

  • Farming land

  • Forest land

  • Public parks and private parks

  • Vegetation area

Delhi is one of the most sustainable cities in India and most of the time it ranks in the first or second spot. At present (June 2021) its overall greenery score is around 23%. But this greenery is not uniformly spread in the complete city for example the Green Score for some famous places in Delhi are shown in the plot
